Many pages ago I asked about a D300 vs a new lense. I found a used Sigma 120-300 f2.8. It wone me over. It takes a little while to get use to the weight. I now have a mono pod and a Acratech GV2 ballhead (
Acratech*::*Ballheads*::*Acratech GV2 Ballhead), but still shoot handheld some. The D70 & 70s both focus faster with this lense as compared to tamron 70-300 f4-5.6 (not suprised) but not quite as fast as the Nikor 70-200 VR that I rented. It was tough to decide between the Nikon and Sigma, but for crew, autocross and other shots that I have been taking the extra bit of throw is nice to have. It did not hurt that the Sigma cost me 200 dollars less than the Nikon.
