You have more skills than mine, sometimes when I lead a group, I never know if I'm boring everyone driving slow, or driving too fast. The best thing is to separate the more aggressive drivers and let them do their own pace. That works the best.

Exactly.

As you know, many times I will ride the roads in the morning (noting the conditions, rocks, etc) and drive them in afternoon. In the afternoon or late afternoon most of the people have come and gone. I have some comfort that the road is less travelled. I am out there for the enjoyment and not to impress anyone, Mulholland is heavily travel and I obt for the less travel more challenaging roads. With the car or on the bike, my number rule is to not cross the center line, and if I do it is because of my error in judgement and is somewhat as safety margin. I will not cross it to take a straighter route, even when I know it is clear of on coming traffic. On Sunday when 10 cyclists were coming down Decker to the PCH a few were passing others cyclists by crossing the on-coming traffic, I will not do that no matter what, as I want to ride and drive another day.

You would be surprised at what I found coming up Decker, dump truck, had crane trying to drive up it one time was having to use both sides of the road to make the turns, it can be crazy.

Hal, if the drive were to be broken up between the slow and fast, fast should be defined as driving spiritely to agressive and knowing the road well, knowing the road well is a must. My fear about driving Tuna canyon is coming to stop sign and slower spots, and those that do not know road but are driving agressively could come around the corner run into others in front.
