From Chesterfield, NH (overnight for NJ/NY/CT people) we could pick up RTE 100 close by and head North, or we could jump on Rte 91 to Rte 89 and get off close to this planned Route. Get to the meat of the Trip sooner (still an hour and 15 minutes up the Highway.

As it is from Chesterfield, NH... Up the Intersate, through the mountain passes, up Rte 100 and out to Rte 89 it's a 5 hour trip. Add an hour for lunch that gets from say 10 am to 4pm. Then the 3 hour trip home (you and I).

We could start out earlier 9am from Chesterfield, NH and finish up earlier in the day. If we start out early and do a late lunch (2pm) , then people can take as long as they want at lunch. Just have to plan a Gas stop/bathroom/snack break ...about half way.

The other thought is to get on Rte 89 and go all the way up to Middlesex, VT and do the trip South. Might be less traffic on the South side.

Feedback again please.
I had planned on doing the route North to South. In addition to hopefully avoiding some traffic, you hit Rt 17 early and that's the best road up there.

I usually scan the motorcycle boards for info on routes I'm considering, particularly pavement condition since that changes from year to year.

Rt 17 / Rt 125 Review:
Route 17 - MAD RIVER GLEN: Vermont Motorcycle Rides

I've driven both these roads and they're great. We drove 17 on the Bove's run so you know that one. I used to drive 125 often, before the Dog Team Tavern burned down.

The following rates most of the roads:
Vermont Sport Bike Roads 2

To avoid dirt, you would have to skip Lincoln Gap. I added it to allow the transits to start east and finish east. I had planned on driving it in advance to see what the condition was like and had considering driving 17 in both directions if it was a problem. The rest of the roads should be fine since they're numbered routes.

If you want to pre-drive the final route let me know. Fred would join us, I'm sure.
