Another potential reason, and this happened with the Elises too, is that people bought the car without realizing how much of a "sacrifice" is involved compared to typical cars. They got excited about the look and performance of the car, ran out and bought it, and then realized they wanted more luxury, easier ingress/egress, cupholders, whatever. Now they've tired of the cars "shortcomings" and want to sell it for something else.
