Shims were sent
only to the buyers from the first batch of rotors. Dave changed the design to eliminate the need for shims with the second batch, and no shims are needed.
The pictures, shown above, are of my beta-versions of the rotors. The final product, which Bill bought, has a nice finish on them that gives them a slight hue (ever so slightly vaguely goldish, but the color is almost impossible to see) and will protect the aluminum from oxidation. See the thread Bill references for pictures.
FWIW, changing the rotors isn't hard, but (unlike the stock rotors) you will have to remove the caliper in order to get the rotor on the hub. The hats were designed to remove as much weight as possible, so they cannot be levered onto the hubs with the calipers in place.
Also, fwiw, the rotors were designed to work with stock and Pagid RS14 pads, but provided that your pads have an identical footprint (and backing plate), they ought to work.
I've now run my rotors for two full (and hard) seasons, and they've done great. No complaints, whatsoever, and I've been very happy with them.
Best,
Twin
