How long is your "pigtail" connector? There is no way that my connector would go from the engine bay through the divider between the bay and the boot to get to the battery. It's just not long enough.
Mine is connected directly to the battery terminals, fed out the back of the battery cover and hangs along the front of the cover in the boot. No fires or blowing up so far when I connect it.
