Is your plan upgrade for looks or performance? Going larger with the wheels adds weight which hurts the handling of your car. The wider tires will also hurt the tossable feel of the car. You would be better served to stick with 16"/17" but go with slightly wider wheels. We actually introduced the Minus 1" concept to the Lotus market here in the US - 15"/16"
If you want to make your car look mean - then the sizes you are requesting will definitely do the trick!
