Front Clam Ouchie -- insurance / repair question

Now, I know none of you have ever hurt an innocent clam...but maybe you have some opinions on what i should do.

Last night, sitting at a light, the woman in front of me decided to go into reverse. Although I laid on that horn the second I saw the white lights, I don't think she heard or knew it was directed toward her.

Here's the issue -- i have some damage to the front clam. I took it to Eveland Bros. today who quoted me right around $6,000 to repair (not replace) the clam. Looks like a pretty big chunk of that estimate is the 16 hours to remove and install it .

I spoke to the insurance company who told me I can either go to one of their authorized service centers (they have a lot of Ford dealers, for example, as well as places with the name of the street they are located on in their names), or they can send an adjuster to make an estimate and I can go anywhere.

I'm a little unsure about this. I am guessing that their adjusters will first wonder what the car is "what is that? Lotus Elise. Who makes it? Lotus. Yeah, but who makes it..." then some up with some number not understanding the whole clam thing.

The other option is going to..um...well, heck, overland park jeep / eagle / mitubushi and dealing with overspray the rest of the time i have the car.

Any thoughts or ideas of what any of you would do? I mean, I think 6k is high for a repair, since i've read about people getting new ones for less than that, but I really don't know any other repair shops, and so don't know if they are on this "Preferred Service Provider" list.

Thoughts anyone?? Thanks for your advice!
Lisa
