Did you know that it takes about 4 hours only to go from downtown London (Waterloo Station) to Cologne by
train or back? The Eurotunnel really makes Britain a part of the mainland.
In case we will join you this would probably be the way to do it - take the train. Travelling will be less fun than with the Elise, but the train can haul more shoes.
