I know this sounds too easy, but I just used ONE hand to move the tensioner with this tool* and the other to slide the belt over the alternator. I've used it on many different cars and it's worth at least 3 X what it costs. May have been in the $30 price range...too old to remember.

*Kit 52 13pc "POWERBUILT" Serpentine Belt Tool. It has many sockets and one to fit the Elise/Exege. It comes in a molded case about 2 ft long with more attachments than Madonna's vibrator. And the bar is flat steel around a 1/4" thick and around 18-20" long. I think I got it at Kragen or Autozone years ago. Of all the 'trick' tools I have this is top drawer and a must have.
