Here's how I mounted my front plate without drilling into the clam. I threw this together out of some aluminum scraps I had, using epoxy and pop rivets. Hey, if it works for Lotus...
I hope to modify it so it can be quickly disconnected by just popping out two spring pins.
It ain't pretty but it works.
