I've had multivex mirrors since I got my '05 elise last october and they were installed years ago. I test drove an elise without them. The multivex makes a huge difference. I'd think they do create distortion in depth of field, but I pretty much know exactly how far back cars are in my mirrors - the distortion is probably at a consistent rate and you get used to it without thinking about it. I haven't tracked in the dark but I have during the day and I have an elise so I can see out the back, but I would think that having a wider field of vision behind you with a slight distortion in depth would be better than having a narrower field of view. You most likely would have seen the porsche's headlights earlier with multivex mirrors - the less surprises on a track the better.
