I have tried the valet parking thing a few times now. Usually the valet doesn't mind, a couple of them have been just plain happy to oblige. People get personal with their cars sometimes, they know it. When I meet a cool one I tip him well and everyone is happy. My friends already know that if the lot looks scary and I don't get on with the valet that I will be calling them from a table at a different restaurant. None of them have comlained about it. A few sets of rolling eyes maybe...

thats not out of line at all; the valet's job is to oblige the customer as much as possible. for $20-$30 they should be happy to open up a spot in the front for you and let you park it and keep the key.
at any rate, it is certainly not out of line for the elise. i used to own a valet company a few years back.... we specialized and only handled high end nightclubs (for those in chicago, we did elixir, drink, shelter, karma, dragon room, and mint). on any given weekend night we ALWAYS had around $1 million worth of cars in the front; all high-end cars like ferrari, lamborghini, mercedes, etc. the elise would have absolutely gotten a front spot regardless as to whether the owner paid extra for it.
on the other hand, there were always guys with lesser cars that wanted them up front as well... i remember one occasion when i guy had a brand new audi TT freaked out because his car had been put in the lot rather than up front with the nice cars (btw he did not even tip, just paid the 6 bucks). he actually screamed in this girly shrill voice, "do you know what that is... its a TT! " as if it was even in the same class as the others...
those are the guys who got the rolled eyes
