It is also connected (in some weird way) to the alarm. The power that feeds the light also feeds the alarm's motion sensor. People have discovered that there is always a small amount of current flowing through the light, even when it is not glowing.

Bottom line is that if you have the light in any position but down, the motion sensor will cause errors with the alarm system - besides the fact that the door sensors won't be working either.
