True and false. When I had my Elise, I took it to Sears to have them put on my new tires that I bought online. I gave the kid an extra $20 to lift it with a floor jack, flipped through the manual with him and got on the floor to point out the jack points, and showed him how many pounds to torque the bolts. The kid did an amazing job, and I still wound up saving a few hundred bucks. Not chump change where tires are concerned.
The only part I think qball was neglectful about was in leaving the car there and not watching the guy like a hawk. That's something you can do at a Lotus dealership, but not at a generic shop with untrained technicians.
