Yes, I think lining up the back hinges are key and if those aren't lining up my first check was on the alignment of the K&N filter element which had popped out partially, once the K&N was lined up the back hinges aligned right up, just slipped right in and I was able to snap the clips back in place. I hope this helps someone.
