Ooohh a route 66 trip would be cool, I hear there are alot of neet things to see along the way. Old abandoned places from when it was in its glory. I am jealous!
Doug, wherever you end up going, keep a journal and post lots of pics for those of us who need to live vicariously through you  FWIW I think you are doing the right thing taking some time off and going on this trip, you only live once and another job will always be there when you get back.
