You can download the complete (except for the Toyota engine and transmission internals) Factory Service Manual from Lotus Cars USA (LCU) for $25. When I was still dreaming about the Elise (prior to the US version being available) I bought a bootleg copy of the S1 manual on Ebay Just to read up on the car's internals (yes, I'm a geek). Later I got a copy of the S2 manual. Much of it is similar to our car, but I made sure that I bought the "real" manual from LCU.
