Lexan windshield install

Hopefully, my Lexan windshield will be installed tomorrow or Thursday. Has to be done before Friday morning as I am scheduled to be on the track early Friday morning. If it does not rain tomorrow (I am on slicks), I will try and get it done tomorrow.

It was a bit of PIA to find an installer. Glass companies won't touch it for several reasons. They will not use the bolts to fasten it and don't want to incur the liability for gluing it as they stated the urethane adhessive won't hold. My dealer won't touch the install either and they pretty much do anything for me as I have purchased so many Porsches from them. I have been told that the adhessive will work fine if the window is prepped properly.

I found a guy that cuts and installs lexan windows for race cars. He uses rivets instead of bolts. He also said that based on his experience with race cars, lexan needs to be fastened by rivets or bolts. He is going to use adhessive on mine and install perhaps 10 rivets to secure it. I am cool with this, but am not sure how it will look. I, however, am more concerned with weight reduction than cosmetics.

Has anyone used only adhessive yet? If so, how many track events has this held up?

Product is very cool. The installation process has prooved a little tricky though. Then again, my local glass companies could all be a bunch of panzies.

BTW, I am a little concerned about how the rubber surround piece will look and whether this thing will now leak. Anyone have pictures or experience with driving in the rain with one of these bolted or riveted up?
