I always think it looks odd to watch someone swing it out. In my opinion, the body lines on the car suggest that the door should swing upwards. Look at the picture below and try to forget everything you know about our cars. Check out the sloping curve of the door and maybe you'll see my point.

The first time I showed my designer friends the Exige, they all said "Shouldn't the doors swing up?" I always assumed it was because of the Lambo legacy or whatever, but maybe it's because vertical doors make the most aesthetic sense? Who knows. |
I do agree that looking at the car you'd certainly expect them to go up but there is also a safety issue with the lambo doors. If the car ever lands on the roof you are completely trapped (there have been some gruesome Lambo stories related to this).
