He fashioned two inserts
which maintained the correct seat height and gained me the space behind the seat. I was going to paint them black but clearcoated them because they were so pretty, of course you have to know where to look to see them.

I couldn't be more pleased with the result. I also learned how to remove the console (to reinforce the shifter - definitely worth the effort), removed the back panel to reroute the power cable from my new Voltphreaks 3lb battery and learned where the fuses are after shorting the accesory outlet. All in all a worthwhile weekend.
