Locking Glove box mod
Hi,
New Elise owner for ~3 weeks. Still have the Elise grin pasted to my face (a bit like Botox, but will take a lot longer to wear off)
The only thing that I find a little annoying, is the lack of a lockable Glove box, so I'm trying to gauge the interest in a mod that I'm going to do for mine. I'm going to build a lockable cover for the little shelf, so that the radio faceplate (the JVC upgrade, that's superb BTW) can be locked away, together with the other items that I want available instead of being locked in the trunk. The hinged door will have no indication that it's a door ( no key lock's) but will be held by a magnetic catch, the same that you get on the glass door's on a video cabinet, you push it to close, push it again and the magnet lets go, allowing the door to open (in my case the glove box door will swing down). I'll attach two solonoids, linked to the ignition, one either side at the top of the door frame, with the pins retracted when the ignition is switched on, (so the door can open with a push to release the magnets). When the power is switched off from the solenoids, the solenoid springs will push the pins to engage into the door, making it impossible to open. This will also mean no power drain when the car is left unattended
Now, my question is, is anyone else interested in this mod? Making a one off is fairly easy for me, but if I can sell this to others it will be a viable option to get a mold made. The pic is an example of what it will look like compete, (photshop'ed)
