Does anyone know what would be involved in changing standard window winders to electric windows on my 05 Exige?

My best guess would be simply two switches and two window regulators? Hopefully they will come with all the necessary wiring etc.

Anything I'm missing? Anyone done it?

Hey all,

This is kind of a feeler, but would anyone be interested in different color start button lights? This isn't a "hack and splice" deal, but the actual OEM replacement bulb, and they can be amber, blue, green, red, or white. Price would probably be around 15-20 bucks which includes shipping. Let me know what you guys think.

A/C Blower and switch issue

A/C switch to the blower failed. I bought the part from my local auto parts store (cross references to a '70s Ford). Installed the switch, and that worked fine. . .until the switch quit again.

I took the car to an a/c specialist. He thinks a blower resistor is faulty. The resistor is supposed to prevent the blower from sending too much current to the switch and **PFT** fry the switch.

Has anyone had this problem? Where's the blower resistor or the blower located?

Thanks!

I don't know if this has been posted already, but I wasn't able to find the answer using search so I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

If the Battery dies with the Alarm/Immobilizer on, what is the correct procedure to mobilize and start the car once the battery is jumped and charged?

In specific,

1) Will the key fobs still be synchronized and work?
2) If not, will the fobs work again after going through the resynchronization procedure in the owners manual?

3)If neither 1 or 2, what is the next step?

Thanks in advance.

Has anyone done a proper HID retrofit? i.e. Lens conversion

I've seen more than a few HID kits on this site and on the Interwebs but none of them seem to address a fundamental problem with the Lotus Elise/Exige headlight: the housing and components are built around a halogen bulb projector lens. For proper light dispersal and to produce a clear, focused light, you need a projector lens out of an OEM vehicle with factory HIDs. So my question is has anyone gone this extra step and can they offer advice or vendors that are willing to do this? Or is everyone here just using universal bulbs and ballasts into the existing halogen unit?

Intermittent electrical short

I'm having a short on my parking/side lamps that occurs only intermittently. When it occurs I instantly lose parking and instrument lamps, and find fuse f16 to be blown.

Here is the history;

2005 Elise
Have gone through 5 fuses so far.
First time I noticed it I was on a long drive from San Francisco to Vegas and had the trunk stuffed. I had replaced the battery before leaving. On the drive I lost all parking and Inst Panel lamps. Replaced the fuse when I returned and it worked fine in the garage. The next drive it blew again, not sure when as it was daytime. That night on my return home it blew after about 15 minutes, then 2 minutes, then I could not replace it without it blowing instantly. I was actually happy about this as I thought I could at least find the problem. Next day everything works fine after another fuse.

What I have tried;

Visually inspected all trunk wiring, nothing wrong I could see.
Removed/installed all tail lamp bulb holders to check for cracks, nothing odd found
Inspected side marker lamps for tire rubbing
went around the car tapping and jiggling every exposed wire or lamp trying to recreate the issue, with the lamps on, and did not have a repeat

SO;

I'm still trying to find it. My next step is to remove the undertray and diffuser to check for any wiring issues there. I have left the lamps on in the garage for over an hour with no shorts. I'm assuming it is vibration related, but the decreasing fail times makes me think there may be a heat component.

Does anyone know if there are any disconnect points/plugs, where I can isollate parts of the sidelamp circuits to try to narrow it down? IE disconnect the tail lamps and see if it reoccurs. I know there are plugs at the lamps themselves, but am thinking of something further upstream.

Any suggestions or methods to try and find the problem?

All help appreciated!!

I am sorry if this has been posted before, but here it goes anyway.

Installation on the sealed headlights on the newer lotus is so much easier than the earlier versions. No need to remove the head light assembly or hacking the bulb holder to secure the hid bulb.

Remove the wheel (4 bolts)

Remove the fender liner (3 screws)

Remove the dust cover, your hid kit should probably look like mine which comes with its own dust boot. I drilled a 1" hole in the stock dust cover and passed the HID wiring through.

You will need to remove the light bulb clip as the hid bulb has a longer body. All you need to do is pull up/down on the ends and the clip will come off.

I've had the V1 for a year now with no problems in my truck.

I recently put it in my lotus with the heads up display. The main unit is mounted on a bracket above the interior light (alarm switch) between seats, and the display is on the steering wheel.

Ever since its been in the Lotus, it feaks out alarming over and over and over and over like every 10 or 20 seconds alerting LASER - full signal. It does it day or night, country or city, all the time when its on laser mode, but not in other modes.. I want it to be in "L" mode all the time because the book says thats the best mode to leave it in.

any ideas anyone???

Hi

Just bought a 2005 Elise. Occasionally, after disarming the alarm/immobiliser with the fob, I turn the ignition key only to find that the engine does not even turn over. The red light on the tachometer is not flashing at this point. A few days ago this problem occurred, and after repeatedly turning the key the car started. The problem is intermittent. Any thoughts?

Also, I just started the car (it started on the first attempt), and let it warm up before pulling away. For some reason, the red light flashed intermittently for the first minute or so that the engine was running (before pulling away, so engine was idling). Any thoughts?

The only time the light actually works is when i shut the car down and turn it back on after driving for a while.(like 30 mins) i just got a floor jack so i can take off the inner wheel lining now. any one have any ideas? i really dont want to buy a new set of HID's. heres a video of it too, to help.

Key with Lotus Badge Mod

I recently brought a BWR racing Uni-key. The key seems to be alittle bit too plain. I have a Lotus pin tie-tac badge sitting on my desk for over a year. And my thought is why not give a trial to put it on the key. Here is my mod. I hope the instruction is not too hard to follow. Please do not hesitate to provide comments.

_*Parts required (Picture 1):*_
* A BWR racing Uni-key (Any key with "thichness over 0.25 in and 1.5 x 1.5 in surface area" may work. It has to come with a cover on the other side. BWR key = $48.00 + shiping cost, it does not include the remote PCB)
* A Lotus pin tie-tac badge ($4.95 + $2.50 shipping at Ebay)
* Loctite Stik & Seal Ultra Adhensive
* A drill
* A knife
* A Plier

*_Instruction (30 minutes work + 24 hours wait): _*
* To scratch out the "BLACKWATCH" word and to smooth the surface with knife (Picture 2).
* Surface work is completed (Picture 3).
* To drill a 0.19 in diameter hole at the center (Picture 4). Letter "B" and letter "H" can be used as an alignment.
* To remove pin from the badge with a plier (Picture 5).
* To apply adhensive on the badge and place it on the key. To apply a tape (any) to cover the hole inside the key. To secure the badge on the key with binder clips (Picture 6). Let it sit for 24 hours. Do not worry about the squeeze out material. It can be cleaned up by carefully cutting away using sharp-edged tool - the knife.
* Here is completed mod (Picture 7 & 8).

P/S: Not sure if anyone has the same problem. I use two molding tape (with foam) on the carbon fibre plate to help better feel on pushing the buttons (Picture 9)
