*Priced from $73,500 (plus a $1,175 destination charge).*

2010 Lotus Evora Preview - MotorAuthority (http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1038434_2010-lotus-evora-preview)

The wraps first came off the 2010 Lotus Evora back in July 2008 but despite the car looking production-ready engineers had plenty of fine tuning to complete before it could finally go on sale.

Now, finally, Lotus has confirmed that North American driving enthusiasts and car aficionados will soon have their chance to slide behind the wheel of an Evora as it will become available in early 2010 and be priced from $73,500 (plus a $1,175 destination charge).

Though the Evora has only been shown on a few occasions thus far in the U.S., approximately the first two months of production are already pre-sold. If you still haven’t had your chance to see the car, Lotus is sending two Evoras on a tour of its 44 dealers across the country.

The Evora is the first all-new--from the group up--car from Lotus since the introduction of the Elise back in 1995, and it’s the only sports car on the market with a mid-engine layout and 2+2 seating configuration.

Powered by a 3.5-liter V-6, the new car employs innovative lightweight chassis technology for first-rate track performance but with ride and handling more akin to a luxury model. Beneath the skin the entire front-end structure is a high tech aluminum sacrificial modular unit, attached to the main extruded aluminum tub. This modular unit is designed to deform for maximum safety, and to reduce repair costs in the event of a frontal impact.

The Evora’s V-6 is based on Toyota’s global V-6 powerplant but has been extensively modified for application in the Lotus. Changes to the engine management and exhaust systems also allow it to rev more freely and provide rapid throttle response. Peak power output is rated at 276 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 258 pound-feet of torque at 4,700 rpm.

Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a manual six-speed gearbox, again Toyota-sourced. A close-ratio version of this gearbox is available as a $1,500 option.

The end result according to Lotus is acceleration from 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 162 mph--all while delivering fuel economy of better than 30 mpg on the highway.

The brake package consists of Lotus AP Racing 4 pot calipers and vented and cross-drilled discs. These reside within 18 inch alloy wheels up front and 19 inch alloys in the rear.

In keeping with its luxury overtones, the Evora features plenty of leather and aluminum surfaces in its interior. The dashboard is dominated by a stylized speedometer and rev counter, backlit with blue LEDs, and all controls are positioned towards the driver in true sports car tradition. Other details include figure hugging Recaro bucket seats, hand-stitched leather and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. The Evora is also available with a 7 inch touchscreen multi-media system with satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity as part of a $2,995 Technology Package.

FIRST TEST DRIVE IN THE EVORA!!

I test drove the Evora Saturday at Lotus Motorsports of New England in Waltham, MA.:up: Very nice car in person vs. the on line photos! (seems like we said this before when the US Elise first came over!! lol) Patrick Roussel from LMS did a excellent job putting on a very nice display and host of the FIRST LOTUS EVORA TEST DRIVE EVENT in the US!!

Take the comfort ride of an Esprit and a heart of the Elise and merge the two and you have the Evora!

Nice Car, Very nice ride and LOTS of room! No more hitting my elbow in my passengers breasts when you shift (not that that was a bad thing) and very smooth transmission and clutch. Dash was very nicely laid out and displayed well, digital gauges looked very impressive as well. Dash was very nicely leather covered and doors. Oh did I mention 2 CUP HOLDERS?? That is to please those American non-sports car people. HAHAHAHA! Who uses cup holders! That was a Lotus first, I never had them in any of my many other Lotuses.

Engine looks very impressive looking through the rear glass deck lid panel, nice touch. Opened the rear deck lid to engine compartment, there seemed to be about the same room in the boot for storage as the Elise, maybe just a hair more room, but really didn't seem to be much larger. The engine & Engine cover looked nice, covering a plainer looking v6 engine.

Had a little louder rumble of exhaust vs. the Elise also.

The 19" rear tires and larger brakes were very aggressive looking and 18's up front, car handle and gripped the road very well even on the wet roads.

I think Lotus will do very well with this car and will sell them fast!

Best of Luck to Lotus & the Evora! Very well put together and laid out car!!

Just Checked Out The Evora...

So myself and a few other local Lotus guys just went to check out the Evora here at Lotus of Waltham. As always Pat greeted us with a smile and opened it right up.

Specs:Great color combo on this one, dark grey like graphite grey/red interior and optioned to the balls.

First impressions:

On the outside the car looks lightyears better in person than in the press photos. You just don't see the murciealago-ish feel to the front end (wide and swooping) and you really lose the width of the rear and channel in the roof. It's got a great stage prescence from every angle, and some really nice Elise-esque curves to the tail end. Standing behind the car looking at the back end and roof it looks just awesome. Wheels/tires are both big and look good. Seems to be some room out back for even bigger wheels if desired which is always a plus :D I love the vent placement on the rear quarter panels up by the roof. Everything just looks so clean. The little glass window to the engine is neat as well. Plus it kind of have bumpers front and rear rotfl

On the inside it's really well suited. The Recaro seats are EXCELLENT. Very soft leather, very comfortable. Despite the Top Gear review the buttons are nicely tailored and have a great feel to them. Interior has some fun lines to it especially with the red/black theme this one had going on. You do get a little rear view spot and this had the rearview camera. I hate to say it from a purist standpoint, but the little convenience features suit the car very well. Pretty cool in a Lotus having navi, park distance control, rearview camera, two window buttons in one place, etc etc.

Overall I really like it, much more so than a Cayman or entry level 911. I think this thing will have some legs for buyers and we'll start seeing some around. It's kind of like Lotus grew up and thought through some of the faults we love, but hate about our cars. If I had my way I'd have this for a daily and an Elise/Exige for the weekend toy. :nanner2:

I'm going to try and make my way over tomorrow for a test drive and report back with a driving impression. I'll bring the camera gear as well.

Lotus Scoops EVO Car of the Year

Lotus Scoops EVO Car of the Year Double
The Lotus Evora takes the title of ‘EVO Car of the Year 2009’, with the Lotus 2-Eleven winning the prestigious ‘EVO Track Car of the Year 2009’.

For the ‘EVO Car of the Year 2009’ test EVO Magazine took a fleet of the world’s most desirable driving machines to the sensational roads of the Isle of Skye in Scotland, to evaluate the cars over a three day and 1000 mile test route.

The Lotus Evora, along with cars from manufacturers including Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin were put through their paces on the challenging and technical roads by the EVO team.

In the Car of the Year test, the group of 13 cars were whittled down to the top 5 and then scored out of 100, with the Lotus Evora beating all other entrants with an impressive score of 96.0.

John Barker, Motoring Editor said of the Evora "It's a magical thing across the ground, deft like an Elise, with exceptional poise and feel. What was telling for me was that, getting into it after any of the other finalists, it was even better than I remembered: a bit smoother, a bit quicker and even sweeter dynamically, too. It's a beguiling car."

David Vivian, Contributing Editor, commented, "A quite brilliant car and worthy winner."

The ‘EVO Track Car of the Year 2009’ event swapped the dramatic scenery and challenging gradients for the more familiar, but fast and demanding West Circuit at the Bedford Autodrome.

The Lotus 2-Eleven along with eleven other cars competed for the title of ‘EVO Track Car of the Year 2009’. The test group contained some of the most exciting track cars on sale today, including hot hatches, track focused supercars and exotic track machines.

In the Track Car of the Year competition the cars were each timed around the West Circuit and compared subjectively to find a winner. On the way to winning the competition the 2-Eleven posted the second fastest time and closely matched the criteria set by the judges of providing entertainment, being rewarding and a challenge to drive.

Roger Green, Track Test Editor, when commenting on the 2-Eleven said "Every single judge described (the 2-Eleven) as 'superb' in their assessment notes."

Henry Catchpole, Road Test Editor, stated that "It’s fabulous. It takes the habitability, finish and dimensions of the road car and adds the dynamics and awesome gearbox of a race car."

Luke Bennett, Operations Director of Lotus Cars Limited said that "I am delighted that the Evora took the title of “EVO Car of the Year 2009” and it is made even better that at the same time the 2-Eleven has won the Track Car of the Year competition. The Evora and 2-Eleven offer very different ownership propositions; however both have the same Lotus DNA and each reward the driver with a great Lotus driving experience.”

Luke went on to say "It is a great endorsement for Lotus cars that the most refined car in the product line up is picking up awards at the same time as the most extreme car in the range, illustrating the great wealth of engineering and manufacturing expertise at Lotus."

Lotus Bellevue at Park Place, November 13th through the 14th

Friday, November 13th: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Cocktail Reception and Unveiling
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Saturday, November 14th: 9:00am - 10:30am
Tech Session

On the evening of Friday, November 13th, we will be hosting the Northwest unveiling of the Evora. A Lotus Cars North America executive will be on hand to give a presentation. We will also be welcoming Lotus Club members and will have a special display of other historic Lotus cars spanning several eras.

Then, on Saturday the 14th, join us again for an Evora Tech Session in the Park Place Service Center. We will have the Evora on the lift so you can get up-close and personal while comparing it with other sports cars. See and get an appreciation for exactly what makes the Evora so special.

Park Place Ltd - Exotic Car Dealer (http://www.parkplaceltd.com/default.aspx?html=lotus_evora_unveiling.html)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Lazer Blue on Charcoal*, Sport pack, Tech pachage, Premium Package, Silver Cast Wheels, Star Shield, Lifestyle color.
From first hand experience: It drives like a Dream! Easy to get in and out, amazing interior room (limited rear seat). The suspension is fantastic! I can now state that the Evora is every bit the everyday sports car I've read about. "Performance car of the year!"

Toyota VVTi problem

The new Evora uses the basics of the Toyota 3.5 V6 that is used in Camry, Avalon, Highlander, FJ, and Rav. There is a minor yet serious problem with this engine.

Simply put, a 40$ part is the cause of numerous blown engines. There is a two piece snaky-shaped metal tube carrying oil from front of engine to VVTi cam cover. Connecting the two pieces is a rubber hose that fails at as low as 18000 miles. Oil pressure light working or not, at highway speeds many, many folks have dumped their oil and ruined their engines. Toyota has a technical service bulletin, but no recall. (They would apparently rather replace engines under warranty.) Read about it here Third Generation 2005+ - Toyota Forums :: Toyota Nation (http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=156) (and all over the web.)

Images of the Evora engine abound on the web. You can see the questionable tube - and the rubber hose- in the upper left hand corner of this photo Lotus Evora engine on Flickr - Photo Sharing! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/exfordy/2868219035/)
Perhaps a campaign is needed to get Lotus to upgrade this "feature" if Toyota won't. I don't want to be buying an expensive sports car with a built-in headache.

Also, if any tuners out there are cooking up performance parts/superchargers/etc. for this engine, keep in mind that some things built for the Lotus, with slight mods will work on Toyota. I know, the Evora is light and has a stick, and is meant to make power at different RPM band; but there is a hell of a demand for performance upgrades for the Toyota version of the engine too, and many many more Toyotas.

Evora Article in Evo

Picked up the new issue of Evo (136). They have their first real independent drive in the Evora. The writer has nothing but praise for the car comparing the b-road ride to a hot hatch. The only negatives he had to say were that the gearbox felt a little vague and awkward to engage when pushed on the track but it was perfect on the road, the entry is still a little tough (but commented an exotic car should have a little drama) and it doesn't have 'the feeling of solidity that Porsche imbues in its cars but as a package the Evora has a lot of similarities with the multitalented 911'. That was it for criticism.

He said it 'proved to be a really usable GT car, yet it also played the junior supercar role in a way he hadn't expected.' and went on to say 'that he didn't think even a 911 would have coped so well with their genuine cross-section of British roads' and that make no mistake, the Evora is a very special car.

He sang its praises on the engine, pedals, ride, handling and of course the steering.

On track it lapped very close to the Boxster S and about a second adrift of the new TTRS and Elise SC. Their Performance Stats read:
0-30 2.1
0-40 3.3
0-50 4.3
0-60 5.6
0-70 7
0-80 9.2
0-90 11.2
0-100 13.6
and the 1/4 mile is 14.1 @ 100.8mph
braking is
100-0 4.2
302.4ft
and 0-100-0 18.8
