I may be purchasing a 2007 exige s here soon. I like the color but not feeling the stripes. I was told the stripes were applied at the factory.

My question is are the stripes decals or painted? Are they applied below the starshield? Basicly just want to know if it would if it would be a minor expense or major.

So I am still browsing on the forum and I keep running into maintenance on this car. I keep heaing about oil leaks, problems with the ECU, transmission, steering rack, headlight rings, replaced gauge clusters, intake cams.

I plan on buying an 05 with 8700 miles but this is really starting to scare me that without the warranty I will be spending some crazy 20 grand to fix everything.

I'm new to the forum, but not new to Lotus cars. In the early '70s I had a blue Series 4 that was a crossflow, weber, 1600cc, we built custom headers and had Dave Bean do the engine. The suspension was "customized" and the car ran in SCCA AP solo. The car was traded a couple of times and the last I knew of it it went to the Minneapolis area to a guy who had a company, I think, called Holiday Circuitry. The vin is LBS 4281 OC. Does anybody have any info on the car? Thanks...........jksdds@mchsi.com

Repairs and Rumors of Repairs

when i moved to LA i literally drove straight to Silver Star in Thousand Oaks to test drive a Lotus because i, like all of you, wanted to see what it could do. the experience was magical. SO magical, in fact, that my SECOND day in LA i went to another dealership - all the way in Newport Beach. and then another and another and another. basically, i fell in love. i imagine most of us HAVE TO BE driving enthusiasts because if it weren't for the thrill of DRIVING a Lotus, it wouldn't be anythiing more than a well-sculpted $50,000 go kart. i loved how it moved, i loved how it looked, it was priced right, and the fuel economy/reliability reports sealed the deal for me: my next car would deffinitely be a Lotus. i guess it was counterproductive to start my information search on a LOTUS forum, but that's where i began my research, and, naturally, it was all good news. but now i'm reading reviews, other foums, experiences, and question/answer sites that have me considerably shaken. the consensus is pretty consistant: this car is a REDICULOUS investment. now i'm in a pickle.

as i said, i imagine we're all DRIVERS. i wouldn't expect the Lotus crowd to be a bunch of millionaire snobs who only drive the Lotus for its "exotic" status. i mean, it takes considerable fortitude to get in and out of these things, let alone zip around with minimal accoutrements on a suspension just shy of a sled. having said that, how much is this toy gonna cost me long term? the insurance is understandibly outrageous, but all i hear is how repairs are more expensive than most exotics due to their limited quantity. a corollary of the rarity is that Lotus mechanics are few and far between, and so charge exhorbitant prices for routine maintenance and basic services. i understand the body panels are also minimal, turning a fender scrape into a $20,000 clam shell replacement. and i've read numerous (and frighteningly consistant) reports about Lotus cars rapidly declining in durability and resale value.

as Lotus owners, you are either aware of these expenses and can afford them, or simply know that these are GROSS overexaggerations. i understand that this is an exotic import, and some extravagances are inherant. but my question to you, the gals and guys that run these things in circles, is how deep should my pockets HONESTLY be before i take the plunge and purchase my dream car? i'm pretty realistic about not taking it to Ralph's, or using it as a daily driver, i'm aware of its INSANE handling and its small size coupled with limited visibility. i've been driving them for MONTHS now, i feel like i'm already an owner. but i'm growing more and more afraid that if i drive it a LOT - and i plan to, since that's what it was BUILT for - that in a very short time my car will be in bits, worthless, and making me more and more poor without the exhileration i bought it for in the first place.

it's still the car i WANT, i just have to make sure it's the car i can AFFORD.

if it's of any relivance, plan B is, and has always been, a BMW M3 (E46), in case there are any good contrasts to be made.

thank you for your time you lucky maniacs!

I lost my alarm PIN and alarm engaged.

Don't ask how I lost it. I have my owners manual and I could have swore I knew EXACTLY where I put the case with all my original papers in it but it isn't there. I cleaned my car out and put all of my stuff, including alarm PIN, in a small bag in my totally otherwise empty garage (save a lawnmower and a slightly damaged Elise front clam). Well short story long, my fob quit working after 4 + years and left me stranded in a mall parking lot. I got it hauled home.
Now I can't start my car because I cant reprogram my fob because I don't have the PIN. Yes the alarm is active. Yes the red light is blinking. Yes I hate my self right now.
Do I need to shoot my car with a .44 magnum or can it still be saved?

Hi all ,

My name’s Josh. I’m a student doing a master in the automotive field, and with others, we are currently doing a group project on the Vauxhall VX220. The purpose is to modify the car using a KERS (kinetic Energy Recovery System) and to achieve the vehicle CO2 emission under 100 g/km.
A survey could help us a lot, so we did two questionnaires. You can find the links below. Doing it will hardly consume 2 minutes, and I’m sure the answers will be very useful.

Cheers,

Josh

So four months ago I had a little accident with the lotus, took it to Stuarts Paint and Body cause everyone recommended them and had nothing but good things to say. 4 long months later, they told me car would be ready today.
(heres original thread about me wrecking car: http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f109/need-repair-shop-76144/ )

Then they call me, and said they rear-ended a lexus as they were driving it back from the alignment shop.

They told me they were only going 30mph, and the lexus (some SUV), slammed on the brakes and they rear ended them. ( apparently a lotus cant outbreak a suv @ 30mph ).

So, I went to the shop. They have already ordered a new clam, but cant take the car back apart and see what else they need to do until their insurance comes and takes pics.

Do I need to get a lawyer? What am I suppose to do? Im so frustrated right now I cant think straight.

Front clam is destroyed, driver side door dosnt open (unless you do from inside), passenger door wont open cause it hits bodywork.

I guess I never paid attention before, but while getting my tags, I noticed that my title says 2006 Lotus Elite. I just bought it this spring/summer

Huh? I know the Elite was a stunning car in the 60's. Is there something I dont know.

Did I get a swanky special edition? (with my luck I would say no)

Regardless, I am keeping this car til it goes to the junkyard so I'm not worried about reselling it.

Need seatbelt spacer - Part: A121w6782f

I ordered a bunch of related parts from lotus garage, and after several weeks they sent me most of it. I needed 2 of these and they only sent me one. Apparently they are on back order.

This is just a spacer that attaches the seatbelt to the seat (closest to the door)

The part is only $1.98.

If anyone has one of these kicking around, it would be much appreciated if you would sell it to me.

Or, if anyone has any suggestions of an alternative, that would be appreciated too.

Here is a link to the part: Lotus Garage - 11 Spacer, 19.0 dia. x 12.5mm, seat belt fixing (http://www.lotusgarage.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=872)
