No such army of crack journalists was assigned the task of fact checking Obama's tomes, Biden's book, Hillary's or Bill's memoirs, or Ted Kennedy's post mortem.

Look, I'm no Palin fan, in fact I would and will go out of my way to vote against her if she ever runs on a national level again.

That aside, this type of media bias, then people claiming with a straight face that not only does it not exist, but because of ONE network it is actually biased towards conservatives, is just absurd.

I'd really like to see the AP put 11 reporters on the job of tracking down all the outrageous claims of positive impact the stimulus is supposedly having, especially the now slowly emerging facts around the thousands of bogus job creation claims.

Get married for two years for the tax benefits?

Crazy topic, but probably a fun one. My employer offers health insurance for families practically free, and I told this to my good female friend who is a student and paying out the a$$ for health insurance. She suggested we privately get a marriage cert so she can be on my health insurance, and in exchange I can save ~$5K in taxes since she has zero income for the next two years while she's in school and we'd be able to file married. The obvious concerns are that our friendship could go downhill and she could take me to court and try to attack our pre-nup (and I have some assets to lose), and it would be awkward to explain to any girls I try to date, but at the same time its $10K and a lifelong story.

Is this the worst idea ever?

Considering LASIK

Ok, so I did a search and all the LASIK threads are pretty old (2004 & 2006).

As the technology changes, and people live with their eyes for a longer amount of time, I thought I'd start a new thread.

there was this one
http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f68/quick-lasik-question-one-37794/
and this one
http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f68/just-got-lasik-surgery-32006/

So I found a way to have my company flex benefits pay for all or almost all of my LASIK. ~$3900 for both eyes.

I talked with my regular eye doctor (he doesn't do LASIK or PRK, he is an eye surgeon). And I had an exam for LASIK and consultation yesterday by his partner (who does do LASIK).

Looks like my correction factor -2.25L, -1.75R, slight astigmatism in the right, and my corneal thickness make me a very good candidate for LASIK.
My corneas were actually on the thin side at 500 (microns I think), but they did say it was more than enough for my correction.

I'm also scheduled for a consultation at the TLC in Denver. My father had his done there, and so have many friends (PRK and LASIK).

My doctor's partner only uses the micro keratome blade for the flap. He prefers the results in the hands of a skilled person. I keep reading about the improved results of the femto-second laser IntraLase flap cutting technique.

I'm 33 and my vision is stable, I use daily disposable contacts due to eye health reasons (previous ulcers from 2week lenses). I can't wear a lens for more than 2 days, even with removing them at night and cleaning them with enzymes every night! The daily disposable lenses just can't do enough for my astigmatism, so my vision is uneven and I have some strain, and I often just zone out and have to struggle to focus.

I did suffer from dry eyes, so I had punctal plugs put in, then later had the permanent cauterization of my tear duct drains. Eyes aren't so dry now, but contacts will still stick and make vision in crowded places difficult at times (like walking through nightclubs with glue in my eyes).

After reading about LASIK and PRK, I'm leaning more to LASIK due to the shorter healing time, and possibly longer stability since the epithelial cells sound like they can regenerate and possibly change the results after PRK over time.

I do want the latest and greatest tech, I used to work in a atomic physics lab with lasers, and still work with CNC laser welders everyday, so I'm pretty interested in the tech. I know I want Waverfront guided, femto-second Intralase, 28point iris tracking... yadda yadda.

TLC in denver has all that with their Visix S4 (http://www.visx.com/professionals/visx_technology/s4_laser_overview.php) and IntraLase flap cutting.

I am a bit afraid of the flap, since it is permanent, and might prevent future procedures... I am also pretty active with mountain biking, snowboarding, white water rafting...

I also found this new machine from Carl Zeiss which looks pretty cool and uses intrastromal laser ablation (http://stanford.wellsphere.com/general-medicine-article/another-approach-to-intrastromal-ablation/702637)
Also called Femtosecond Lenticule Extraction FLEx

I actually had an idea for a way to do this until I googled for it and found that somebody already had my idea...

I do like the idea of the femto second laser operation rather than the eximer, because the pulses are much shorter with less heat and less collateral damage to nearby cells.

So anyone have any updates to their LASIK since it's been a few years, would you do anything different?
how long was the final healing phase for LASIK and PRK?
Any weird flap dislocation stories?

Anyone used TLC, especially in Denver?

Currently, what is the best 1:18 diecast I can buy of the North American Elise? Ideally in saffron yellow.

I know AutoArt has a 1:43 version but I'd really like one in the 1:18 size.

A fashion question. :)

*Can anyone tell me who makes these shoes?* I saw Tiff Nidell wearing these and they are really cool -- nice leather driving shoes. Here are some of the screenshots from an episode of Fifth Gear on Bugatti Veyron. I want a pair of the shoes, but can't figure out where to get them.
