Exige easily passes bigger Italians on track (video)

Thought I'd share this video I came across of an S1 Exige at a track day easily passing an F430 and a couple of Gallardos (the Maseratis aren't worth mentioning...).

Fast in, fast out...

They could also be bad drivers, since those are very capable machines. The Ferrari and Lambo drivers are consistently among the slowest in the track days that I've been to. For one track day, my Elise was down with a grenaded engine so I drove my 4-door Infiniti G35 and I was significantly faster than about 3/4 of the Ferraris.

In your video, it's clear that the drivers kinds of stink, because they're turning in early and missing apexes which you are hitting dead on. Nice driving, by the way

Considering he also smokes past a few Lotus drivers, I think it's just a matter of being the best driver on the track. But I do think there is something to be said about an Exige being faster on windy tracks than a Ferrari.

Wow, no point by's, all the cars have their windows rolled up, and some questionable passing locations. What kind of event was this?

But, blowing by the high dollar rollers did have to have a degree of smarmy self satisfaction.

Hard to believe the Caterhams were so slow.

Lambos and ferraris have considerably more to lose than a elise / caterham driver so are not going to try as hard.

For example, the ferrari at the start (although a looney overtake under braking) held back behind the two caterhams in the chicane where the elise driver overtook all three.

As for being faster than a ferrari? Hmmm - questionable.

Oh it's not me. I wish I was that good a driver. I just found that video randomly on the web.

Agreed that the Ferrari & Lambo drivers are clearly missing apexes. Funny story, I originally got my Exige because my boss and I go to track days together and he upgraded from an M5 (which I was faster than in my daily driver 335) to a F430.

Me in my Exige was faster than him in his F430 at Blackhawk Farms. He was definitely holding back given the $$ involved. We're going to Autobahn CC next season, my guess is he'll smoke me since it's so much more open.

If you drive perfectly, stay consistently on the line, and drive at the limit of your car, you can take turns a tiny bit faster than that fancy Italian metal, but every bit of distance you've worked for in the turns will disappear once those guys punch the throttle coming into straights. F430's are fantastic track machines. They accelerate way better, brake about the same, and corner about the same as our cars. It sucks to admit, but some cars are better sports cars than our little Lotuses, but it takes a lot of $$ to make that happen. So, you just have to make sure to be a better driver than your boss.

I dont think these comparisons ever prove much...I've passed everything from a Z06 to a 600hp Ford GT in my SRF. I've had more practice.. so?

We all know that the big hp guys generally are often quite unskilled drivers. Not a slam bc I was too at one time - we all were, just saying that they havent really practiced or gotten their skills down... so?

unless mistaken this vid is a few years old and is a 200hp S1 exige driven by a parisian lawyer during the "rally de Paris" which combines tracks and road liaison stuff, no licence required, just money...and yes the guy is a (very) good driver although with a rather large ego.
