How can I make my exhaust quieter?
I don't want to change the exhaust.
Can I bolt something on the tailpipe? Do these work? How many DBs should it take off? Any downside? SuperTrapp: Performance Exhaust I have heard of people putting rubber hoses on the tailpipe and pointing them at the ground. Does that work? I might like to run Laguna Seca but I am way too loud now. ![]()

Was at Laguana several years ago with Chococar. Think he was ~5dbA over. He came ready with some tip extension to direct the exhaust away from the sound station. That didn't help. He also had a Supertrapp but needed some welding to get them mounted. That didn't happen and he ended up lifting. Not sure if he'd been back since and ran with them.
I'd be a little careful and you may want to do more digging about simply slapping a Supertrapp on. It will also increase back pressure, which a FI car may not be too happy with. |

Patrick,
Try the Larini 8". Very quiet, nice on the brain. I'm fairly certain it will pass LS standards. I have one if you want to borrow it for the event. Glen

get a control valve. (basically a butterfly valve added inline)
it will quiet down the xos alot. but do remember not to go high revs when the valve is on the semi closed position.

I've heard of good results with an inverted cone, usually after the muffler.
They can be mounted so they can be removed. It's not supposed to affect back pressure. I'm not familiar with the exhaust you have. Have you thought about the multi-tube Borla? I have seen them in carbon fibre, though probably experimental only. I use a turndown and that is supposed to make a difference, though I've never tested it. Often reducing harshness is more important to the perception of noise than the db level. |

I have a Super Trapp muffler on my Mazda Rx-7(first gen, headers to straight through exhaust). It is plenty loud but this nice thing about this setup is that it is easy to make it quieter. They usually come with twelve discs and the more that you install the louder it gets. Someone spoke of creating to much back pressure with these but, you can actually create negative back pressure with enough discs. Also you are able to tune the engine somewhat by adding and removing discs. More discs are supposed to make it run leaner and fewer make it run rich. For a good street sound that is not too obnoxious 6-8 discs are pretty good. I run twelve and it annoys people.
