Laguna Seca: desnorkled car: will it pass sound?

Desnorkling the air intake is the only "noisy mod" I've done. Can anyone speak from personal experience on whether desnorkled cars pass Laguna's 92 decibel limit? Yeah, yeah, I know I can lift near the sound station, but I'd rather not. TIA!

Desnorkel making too much noise? I think you would need to worry more about not farting when you pass the sound station.

What I am trying to convey here is that I SERIOUSLY doubt removing the snorkel will produce enough extra-sound for you to fail a sound limit. As the post above stated you will be just fine, don't even give it a second thought.

You know, one would think so. But if memory serves, Rahul (RNR) broke sound because of an aftermarket CAI. So I'm just trying to be cautious here.

Yes -- and I left the snorkel at Dietsch Werkes. Just trying to decide if I should swing by that shop before I go to Laguna.

My TurboXS CAI did blow sound (> 96db) but it is significantly louder than stock - you should have no issues.

IIRC Rob Dietsch has tracked his desnorkled Larini at LS a few times with no issues.

Laguna...

I'm so jealous. I can't even drive my car right now as I've broken my go pedal leg.

Sorry to hijack your thread Jon.

I broke mine (same bone) on Thanksgiving...sucks SOOO bad. I guess I have to live vicariously through JonOrangeElise while he's at Laguna (see...I brought it back after the hijack!).

Jon- you'll be fine with sound. Have the FF open intake, header and sport cat. Folks have mention it sounds louder then stock (think it's more that it's a deeper tone), in any case have passed sound at Laguna many times with that setup. Rode in rnr's car at Laguna, inside it just sounded like a open intake but outside the car it's more like a louder exhaust. For the last year or so, they have a rover checking sound, so lifting by the sound station may no longer get you by. Nice to know those 8" exhaust can pass sound, that has been my hold up in doing a upgrade.

What day or you running? Still need to change pads and oil/filter before, my Elise is again track ready.

OK, Larry, that is by far the most reassuring answer I could read.

I am hoping to do next Monday, Dec 8, with HOD. It all depends on how some current work projects shape up.

As Larry mentioned, you should be fine. I have a Larini as well as an aftermarket intake and have not had any sound issues but I did use a turn down on the exhaust.

I hope the weather holds up. If so, I may join you. I have only done 2 Laguna dates this year

Have a family get together this weekend. But am hoping to make Laguna either 12/22 or 23 with Green Flag. Ran those dates the last two years. Even with the the cold track temps it's been a blast. Haven't been there this year, hope I can get myself out there. The GGLC has it the day after Xmas, doubt I'd run but might be able to stop by for a while.

I should be there as well, with any luck. Just come over to the big red trailer and say hi.

Na, just feeble in my old age...wait, 36 is old right?

I mistepped on a rock in Tahoe, first my knee was screaming in pain, then it suddenly went to my ankle. Luckily my knee seems to be just fine...weird, I know. Have fun at LS, wish I could come hang out at least, but I can barely drive my truck right now. Guess now's a good time to learn my left foot braking right?

You'll be good for the 13th at Thunderhill, though, right?

Is that question for me, Steve?

(But yeah, I'm trying to clear that day too!)

hey, it's for everyone. I should be at all three days barring any incidents, but only plan to run the SRF on the 8th. It *might* make an appearance on the 13th, though, but that depends on maintenance since there are already two tests and two double race weekends scheduled for the first 5 weeks of the year
