OK, I am able to skip work on Monday, so I'll be there at Laguna. See you then, Steve. I'll look for the white trailer, black dog, and green car.

Post HOD HPDE recap...

- I was happy to finally meet Steve (Levin) plus Dave (Steve's lone crewman?) and the awesome black shepherd/lab (whose name I forgot).

- My desnorkled car passes sound uneventfully. Loki's car broke sound by a mere 1.5 DB, but it was enough to ground him. What a PITA! Damn hill people and their fancy houses.

- A ****eload of traffic in the morning sessions. Not just "not a single clean lap," but laps clogged to the brim with stacked cars.

- Going out first in the afternoon sessions, I found clear track. Was able to beat my previous Laguna best by three seconds. I don't know what the hell kind of corner I've turned in the last few track days, but I've turned it. I think if I had a full day of open laps, 5 seconds faster would have been possible, because I felt I was still pussyfooting around. Robbie, it's time for some help. ;-)

- The double-apex at turn 2 is so incredibly effective. Later braking, perfect for trail-braking. I had two guys come up to me commenting on my entry to turn 2. All because they were braking a few markers earlier for their single apex while I was diving deeper.

Fun times... wish it wasn't winter.

Nick: let's do some Barber soon.

Robbie, let's get an all Lotus day set up for next year...

That's unfortunate.

Had a clogged first session that last time at Thill and Robbie and I hit the pits for a second. I was "reprimanded" for doing a hot pit in the first session to begin with and for not waiting long enough in the pits.
Guess my n00bness shines through sometimes.

Hope it was fun otherwise.

This is the "racing-line". Protects the inside and is just as quick, but more difficult for the newbie to understand/execute.

As an aside... we can have an all Lotus day, let's sell-out a GGLC day with all Lotus and mission accomplished! Afterall, club members and Lotus drivers have preference, so if there's enough of us there's no need for any other marque.

Cheers,
Kiyoshi

That would be nice. :-)

But, actually, I was talking about an all-Lotus coaching day at Thunderhill. Maybe 12 cars max.

Jon, it was good to meet you. You should have moved up to D; I had almost no traffic issues out there. And now I can get all the fuel out of my fuel cell (yay! finally!).

I was really off song though in my driving; drove like doodoo and just orbited around in the 1:46's on clean laps.

Hey, do you know how strict David is with his "race-prepped" stipulation for group D? I have harnesses and a H&N restraint, but no fuel cell. Thoughts?

I wish I could remember. I'm sure he'll weigh in soon, though.

I don't think there's any strictness to 'race prepped' that I know of. I can think of a couple of times where there were fast Porsches that did not have internal scaffolding. This Laguna day was definitely odd because D definitely did not mean 'race prepped' for us -- I think there were only 6 racecars and the rest were just street machines.

I drove in D so you should be good as well.

BTW, w/ Skippy's certs on sale now we might want to pick some up. The only problem is that practice sessions are not discounted. Only classes...
What time did you run this time?

1:52 -- I know, it's not great, but I have always had trouble at Laguna. I guess the good news is that I ran 1:52s on my first two clear laps of the day (literally). I think if I had time to develop a rhythm, I could have done 1:50s or even broken into the vaunted 1:49 and below territory.

Let me look at the Skippy details and get back to you soon.
