How many others experienced ice mode this past weekend at BW?
How many others have tried running with ABS disabled?
Opinions of running with ABS and without ABS?

As most of you know I run with ABS disabled, but my brakes aren't exactly stock: Lotus Sport brakes on the front same as Cup car, LPL brake calibers in the rear to move brake bias towards the rear, larger vacuum reservoir, Cobalt pads (custom compounds through HyperSport). I've never had ice mode with ABS disabled, but as I showed in the race - can't have any inaccuracies in corner weights or one corner will lock-up and unstable braking or even a spin.

Sounded like Kevin's braking problem in turn 2 that led to car to car contact was not ice mode, but not completely clear. In my car, with ABS enabled, I can induce ice mode in turn 2 very easily.
Why don't you guys just disable ABS?

Ice mode sounds dangerous - I'd rather lock up brakes than hit Ice mode

i use "MPEG Streamclip" on the Mac. You can download an MPEG2 codec for $20 from Apple but it only permits playback -- not very useful since VLC can playback just fine without any add-on.

+1

I've done both... if I'm going to edit a video I usually convert it to .mov with Streamclip, and then use iMovie.

for iMovie HD (iMovie 6) you want to convert to DV format. that is iMovie's native format and converting to anything else just results in a second conversion when importing into iMovie.

for the new iMovie, it works on the native format of the movie and creates an EDL so that conversion only happens when you finally export/share the final production. however it doesn't understand MPEG2 so you're still stuck with double conversion, so again DV is the format to use.

hopefully a future version (or maybe with firmware upgrade) of chasecam will support MP4 recording.

or, of course, you could use a PC but i just find that to be an exercise in frustration.

Yes, you should see a progress bar somewhere, and when it's done, you should have a usable video.

Wow, that's one large video! But yeah, I suppose it can take that long... (I have an 8 processor Intel Mac, so it parallel processes the videos )

(nerd hijack) I'm stunned the Mac doesn't natively do MPEG-2. I've been looking at Macs and just assumed that they would handle it since it has been around for ages.

Steve
I think it's unfortunate that Apple decided to not buy an Mpeg-2 license, but it's worth the $20 to be able to work on a Mac.
