I plan to build out my motor in December after the last race this year. There are a couple options I am investigating. Perhaps if we did them at the same time we might save some money? I really like the N/A motors so that in the hot summer days it won't fall short on power from the amount of heat soak associated with the superchargers. No matter what inter cooler you have it is still a factor. I also like the simplicity of the N/A motor. I am not sure how much higher the RPM's are, but you are right, they do climb! Option #1- Monkeywrench Racing (speak to Gary): 2zz stroker @$7500 W/O core. this is built to order, but we can run our current engine until it arrives and have minimal downtime when it is installed and tuned locally. If you send your motor to them they will credit a value of $1500- $2000 for it from the price. My thoughts were to sell my motor (>3000mls) for $2500-$3500 privately to a Celica owner on eBay or Craigslist. This is the same motor AJ is buying but with Low Compression (cause he is going to be crazy fast). I can not personally vouch for anything from MonkeyWrench Racing at this time other than the knowledge I have obtained from them. They have a spotty reputation with some people, but I am sure that highly depends on the person. Kirt from Hyporsport racing is a fan of MonkeyWrench, they build all his 400whp Grand Am motors. My personal opinion of them is high. Power output on this motor is a Conservative no guarantee claim from MW but they have told me that they have seen 215-220 WHP with open headers and the right tune. Option #2: Lawless Race Engines (Las Vegas Nevada) They have an excellent reputation here in Las Vegas and have placed their motors in MANY winning cars in Winston cup, Busch and Indy. They are local and stand behind their work according to everyone who knows them. They have a VERY talented TRD Tech on board and have a lot of experience with OUR motors. They have an in house dyno for tuning and will allow CharlieX to come in and tune right there included in the price of the engine so that we don't have to pay $100/hr somewhere else. Pricing at Lawless is close. They are @ $6000 if you bring them your motor. Down time could be a few weeks, or we could find used motors to bring them. I might do this if I can find one cheap. The power figures from Lawless are conservative as well in the same range. They feel 220-235 is easy. I would be backing down the tune for a 215hp bulletproof motor. they come highly recommended by my Techs, CRG Motorsports who are the only ones that touch my car. CRG runs in Busch, Winston Cup and Legends, holding a whole lot of titles. this is the only recommendation I need and will be going with them 100%. As far as bolt ons go, here is what is recommended. ECU- (This is 100% fact from top sources) The best ECU for extracting the most power repeatedly in a reliable fashion is always the STOCK ECU. The problem lies in finding a tuner capable enough to do this. As far as Lotus's go, Charlie is the man for the job. Luckily he is in Vegas and more than willing to try but it has never been done with a stroker block. However an after market EFI unit will come close too and is much easier to tune for the average tuner. Headers- I have the Weapon R headers now. Lawless engines will have to calculate the primary tube size needed for the new motor. This may make a ton of torque over hp which may be cool. But otherwise a custom set of headers will be in order. Estimated at $700 or less. Muffler- if so inclined. I would say 3" or larger DI and really short Intake- Open element for sure. Stock meter should work. If you want to talk to the guys at Lawless, just let me know. I will get their number from a card in my trailer. Later, Robb

Since Doug was the only one that pointed out registration is not open it looks like we are not getting the influx of registrants that would allow us our own run group. We will have to run in mixed groups this time. Robb

Thanks Robb, looks like MWR will be the least expensive solution for a 2ZZ stroker. (I heard MWR are pretty reputable from the MR2 folks.) humm, but it will still run around a minimum of $7k+ without tuning or installation. ouch. Are those HP #'s at crank or wheel. I was doing a little search last nite and found a 3zz. What is the difference between a 2ZZ stroker from say MWR / Lawless and a 3ZZ such as this? 2ZZ(3ZZ) Stroker Kit Just the difference in bore size?
![]() BTW Robb maybe you will be interested in this. I hung out with Allen today at BHL. He showed me some pretty cool stuff. One of the most interesting was the 14WHP gains from the NA motor with just a New Lotus ECU, sports cat/muffler, and a TRD Cup car intake. Wow. If this is really the case, that means at the crank it has around 210-215hp. That is just amazing. And not bad for HP gain/$spent ratio. So I might give this a try first after I get a ride in one. ![]()

What do you prefer????
The LCS committe has been going over our future events and would like to know if you prefer the single day events with hours of track time or the two day events with run groups. This will help us decide how to plan next's years events as well as the balance of the year. Just to let you know Spring mountain would be a two day event. Lets us know asap. Jim

Well, the one day event gave us much more seat time with much cleaner laps than the standard SV weekend.
However, the SV weekends are great. We get to see the Radicals race and about 50 other drivers get to check out our cars. Also, I seemed to improve a lot by reflecting on my runs over night. My vote would be for an even mix of single days and weekend trips.

I think that the Lawless engine will be cheaper. You will have freight for both the new engine from MWR and yours back to them. I don't think they will give more than $1500 as a core value for your other engine either. Maybe in this recession you can negotiate a little, but not sure.I believe Lawless priced in having thier tuner tune the ECU in that price. Not sure. I am fairly certain that if we both went to Lawless at the same time we could make them a lowball offer and get the work done as it will be easier for them to do two of them at once. I am also fairly certain that around the holidays this year all these businesses will be looking for ANY work they can get, even at a lower dollar. All HP figures I was quoting are at the wheels. This is almost almost equal to Cup 255 power. At 100 degrees it should be more. I think the 3zz is very similar to the internals of the motors we are talking about. Ours will be 2.0 L. What is the TRD cup car intake? Do you have pictures? Who is BHL? I am fairly certain the ECU tune wont get you any more than Charlie's tune can. It will just cost more. I'd like to see the intake. Already have the cat gone. later, Robb
