New Magazine About Tracking & Performance Driving

Hi all... After many months of writing, editing and design, High-Performance Driving is now shipping to newsstands all across North America. In the magazine you'll find a bundled DVD full of performance-driving instruction for newbies, and in the pages of the mag itself you'll find content for driving enthusiasts of all levels. Articles include:
- State of the Union report on road courses in development
- a step-by-step article on making your own track maps
- an extensive overview of performance driving fundamentals
- an in-depth how-to on heel-toe downshifting, trail-braking and trailing throttle oversteer
- interview with Alan Wilson, America's #1 track designer -- very technical, very informative
- Huge how-to article on getting started in club racing
- My own first-person account on what you get for your money at Skip Barber and Russell Racing
- On article on 22 performance driving drills you can safely practice on the street
- an investigative report on traffic cameras, and why they're unfair, innacurate and oftentimes dangerous (written by our own Taxcheat!)
- Jay Lamm writes a VERY funny piece on 24 Hours of Lemons
- Tale of the Dragon (Hwy 129 -- 11 miles, 318 corners) from a cop's point of view
- And finally, a story on the early 50s road races through Golden Gate park...

All that plus awesome photos, diagrams and infographics. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Is the magazine available nation wide? Any particular magazine / book stores that will carry it?

He's a handsome devil isn't he? But he needs to hold on to his cars longer than mere MINUTES! hehehehehe.

You and I need to talk. I was just at Tony's getting my belts and alignment done. You are insane. We need to schedule an intervention.

Ah, if the public only knew the function that magazine subscriptions REALLY serve.

The best retailers to find the magazine would be
Barnes & Noble
Borders
B. Dalton
Waldenbooks
Books a Million
Wal-Mart
Major supermarket chains (SW, Albertsons, Publix, Kroger)

Patricko and SilvElise: I apologize. I just got mine yesterday, so it may take a while before they appear on newsstands. I would check back middle of next week.

Newsweek, TIME, Sports Illustrated, National Geographic -- all these magazines make considerable profit from subcription revenue. But these magazines are exceptions to the rule.

Subscriptions are typically loss-making. Think about it: That subscription to GQ or Maxim costs just $12, but the magazine is THICK with expensive paper, and it is delivered via first-class mail. The costs to merely print and send the magazine far outweigh the revenue that comes in via subscription sales.

These subscriptions only exist to keep the magazine's "rate base" at a high number. The rate base is the number of copies that the publisher promises will be read each month. The higher the rate-base, the more the publisher can charge for each advertising page. So if I need to keep my rate-base at 500,000 copies per month, then I might do whatever it takes to stay at this number, lest I lose money on the advertising front.

So I will sell my subs at below-cost prices. And I will keep sending issues to people who stopped subscribing. And if I'm really devious, I might even lie about how I account for my rate-base numbers.

Our competitors (in the tech space specifically) are infamous for artificially inflated rate bases. They have large circulation numbers, but a nice portion of their total rate bases are shams. Magazines go out to people who don't even read them -- and advertisers don't get what they paid for.

I would probably subscribe to your magazine if I could, and a price significantly more than $12 wouldn't scare me. But I'm not going to go out of my way to find it on a newstand.

One time there I heard there was a picture of me in my EVO on track at the EVO Tuner shootout, in DSport magazine, a couple of years ago. I went all over town looking for that mag. I finally found it, buy what a PITA.

For you, Rahul, I will save one. :-)

Sorry for the shipping delays, everyone! I swear it has been printed! I have a few boxes sitting right next to me, as I type.

Can you just send me one? And then maybe the next one and the next one? I'll send you $12!
