Now this is some really great video showing the dynamics of the suspension and tires in a turn and the effects of the paint on rumble strips and what it does to a cars handling.

Around the 1:36mark you can see a front tire lock up and then a flat spot develop at 1:41

Note the way the inside tire walks outwards when crossing over on the paint strips.

Best slow mo I've ever seen on racing. This is a must see.

Have to agree that that the pics from the German GP slow-mo were AMAZING to see how the tires/suspension/wings reacted to the cornering forces and curbs. Wish they had that at more tracks. I bet the engineers loved it too-or not. LOL

Wow, in the first video you can see the puffs of heat from individual cylinders firing...

And the second video perfectly illustrates the principle of "in slow, out fast"

Yeah you never want to get into the dirt at the end of a rumble strip, especially if it rained really hard the day before. I did a few weeks ago and it was soft mud. Here's what happens at 100 MPH exiting a 80 degree turn and hitting mud at the end of the strip.... The front splitter dug in like a shovel when the wheel contacted the grass at the end of the rumble strip. I went right through that nose clip. The only damage was what you see, the front nose clip, less $2500 for everything. A lot cheaper repair than a street car and really not a lot of damage considering. There's a lot to be said for a purpose built race car, which is why I won't part with it. Our ride height is 2" so it goes with the territory. It's a trade off for 2G turns and speed.

I was completely unaware of the rain the day before. Living 80 miles from the track I didn't know that it had rained down there earlier the evening before. I didn't want to over correct and jump back onto the track so I figured I'd just keep my line and blend back in at the end of the strip. The outside tire just bogged in. First off track incident in 6 years.

Very good find. I have seen it on German TV last sunday, but couldn't find it posted somewhere. You can see how much the tires work as a cushion - more than the suspension itself.

The second video shows a Dartfish-like video which is the exact video I use in my coaching. I have been doing it for the last decade not only with amateurs but pros and pro teams as well. In the not to distant past Roush Racing used it. Invaluable but expensive – takes more than a few cameras and a few hours of overlaying. Of course with today's economy...
