Question 4 is messed up, looks like you set exclusive check by column instead of permitting row -- i.e. can't pick the same importance value on multiple rows.

Thanks for all the responses guys. The data is shaping up quickly. I found a couple spelling errors and fixed those. let me know if you catch anything else and I'll jump in there and fix it. If I can't I'll toss the question out. i tried to come at the same point from two directions in a few places. Which is hard to do and stay under the 10 question limit from survey monkey.

This is really great feedback guys. It is very interesting to see where I sit on this in relation to the group. Just another reason that you should listen to the customer. Sometimes your great ideas don't have any value to the customer.
The comments you guys are providing in the survey are tremendous help. I'll let this one ride for a little while to get up to statistically significant numbers. If you could forward the link to a few buddies that also do track events with you, that would be great too. |

Why am I doing it?
Well several reasons.
First, I'm a track junkie so I have a bunch of thoughts on the topic in the first place and it is just fun for me, personally. Second, I'm setting up a track event in spring of 2010 and I want that event to be first class. While many of the ideas I have do not pertain to that particular day, setting that up really got me thinking of all the ways a track day could be improved. but more on that later. Third, i think it is important when starting or running a business to really understand the customer and know who your most valuable customer is. Finally, I am an MBA student and we like to turn everything into a marketing survey. ![]() I'm happy to share my findings. I think the more important findings will come from later surveys. These questions have been very illuminating and have given me knew ways to look at the problem and new problems to explore. So a note on the track day schedule. One thing that I like personally is to have an open track. You instantly get 100% use out of the track and it stays that way all day. However, inexperienced drivers are slower and if there are many at the event, it can really drag the fun factor down for the experienced guys. On the other end, there is breaking the group down into run groups based on skill and cars. The newbs go in one group, race cars in another, GT3 level cars and drivers in another, etc. There is also a big difference in fitness. Some of us are young and in shape. others are at a different point in their lives. Some can go 3-4 hours of driving (with breaks of course) and still be ready for more. Others do 2 hours and are spent. Were all just a little different. Something happened to me a while back. I was at an event about 3 hours from my house. Paid for a hotel, the whole nine yards. We did the day and it was a great day. I got 3 20 minute sessions. There was a break down that required a flat bed and it took like 90 minutes to get it off the track. That's fine, can't stop that from happening but it made me really think about what makes me happy at the track and not happy. Thus, this survey. That group I mentioned above is a great group but one thing they do that I don't prefer is they stop the whole show and don't let anyone on the track until the track is clear. Which is very safe. But it also burns about 5 minutes between EVERY group all day. thats over an hour of track time, with turn workers on site that there is no one lapping. I wasn't happy with that. Add to that the break down some poor race car had the day before a race, and that hour really mattered to me. So now I'm trying to get a sense of what really matters to others so that I put some track days together that people talk about. However, at this point I'd be more of the owner and organizer. I'd hire some top notch guys to make sure everything was run safely. Guys with coaching experience etc. I think when i go to the track, I want to have more track time available to me than I can actually drive in a day. I want it at a cost per hour of time that is lower than anything else. I want the day to run smooth. I want the guys on the track with me to be as good or slightly better drivers than I am. I want it organized and efficient like a German factory. |

yup. we have private days out here quite often. often capped at 12-17 cars. Then they have free time all day, no run groups or timed sessions
