Not long ago at VIR I saw some heavy looking black rubbery ramp extensions about 3 feet long. Seems like they said Trackramps on the side. Anyone know of such? I am really close to beaching with 6 foot ramps and a Featherlight open trailer.
really close = a small piece of 2x4 should give you enough extra margin. i have the short trailer (drop edge) raceramps. i chose that size because they just barely fit sideways across the truck bed. but they are expensive.
Which size Raceramps, and which Featherlight trailer/ramps? I have the shorter trailer (14"?), ditched the stock ramps because the angle of the taper on the end was idiotically upsidedownbackwards. I have a different 6' ramp that tapers correctly, but unless I'm on a downhill slope there's a problem with an Elise at stock height. If I lower any I'd have a big problem.
I was looking at this Race Ramps site recently because I'm having an issue loading my slightly lowered Elise into an open trailer. There are some templates on their site to help you estimate the angle of ramp that will allow clearance on the front of your car. I decided the longer ramp with the 4 degree incline might be best and allow some margin of error (especially if you added a front spoiler or lowered the car). An Elise with stock ride height could probably get along with the 5.5 degree incline, depending on your existing ramps, trailer dovetail (or not), etc.
I also thought I read something here about a discount code for that site that gives a 15% price break--anyone recall what that was?
offering a discount to my readers. So, after reading my review, if you decide you want to purchase any of Brute Industries products be sure to use the following Coupon Code “993c4s8” when entering your order. This coupon code entitles you to a 10% discount off your entire order of any Brute Industry product (not just the Race Ramps) and you can use it and share it as many times as you like.
Yeah, there are a couple of codes out there, but they're all for the same amount. I like the irony of using mine (from a Porsche site) for a Lotus. :nanner:
I've got a 17'6" Featherlite. Even using wood I've had a hard time getting my stock ride height Exige on the stock ramps without bottoming out the splitter. I was thinking the Race Ramps might make a good solution. How do they interface? Do you put the stock ramps on to the Race Ramps? Has anyone come up with some good custom measurements for the ramps, or are you guys finding the 4degree or 5degree ramps adequate? Thanks.
i have the same trailer. the short trailer ramps work great (even if your car is lowered), and fit sideways across the bed of the truck for transport.
stacked 2x4s (fasten them together -- you do not want two pieces of wood slipping against each other) will work just as well esp. if you miter the edge to get a ramp instead of an abrupt drop-off. race ramps are definitely sexier lighter and overall a great product, but they are kind of expensive.
I sell all the Race Ramps products. My website is still being built, but you can still order from me. Here are some pictures of the trailer ramps with my Shelby GT500. It normally sits 4" from the ground. I'll get out to the garage and show the Elise up on 67" Race Ramps XT's.
These race ramps are great. I actually helped the creator of Race Ramps do some photo shoots for his product. Very nice stuff. I even bought some stuff from him.
Alignment stands for my alignment/corner weighting setup.
