06 Elise Choke around 3200+ RPM
I have a 06 Lotus Elise, recently the car has been choking around 3200-4000 RPM. It only happen when the engine is warm around 187degree+, morning and night are usually okay. Once it start to chock, the RPM needle will drop and it's hard to bring it back up, but once it pass 4000, the car drives okay.
has anyone ever have this type of experience before? Not sure what the problem is. Brought to the Dealer, the tech say it's the electronic throttle body needs to be replace ($2500). I just want to see if anyone else has the similar issue and fixed. Thank you

AC Relay (If AC was on at times of issue).. Change your air-filter, clean your MAF. Make sure throttle body isn't sticking.

Check for recalls. I had my throttle body replaced on my 2006 Elise due to a similar experience. It fixed it right up. Any codes thrown? I would think it would be covered due to the recall. It's bulletin 2006/10 from 4/21/2006.

Engine stumble WOT
Check post #18 for an explanation of the MAF cleaning procedure. There's a tsb (technical service bulletin) about the AC relay causing problems in early dbw (drive by wire) cars. I believe a re-flash fixed the problem. I have an '05, so I have the old-fashioned throttle cable system ![]() Tom |

Disconnect it as mentioned in referring post above, spray it with MAF/Brake cleaner.

I have had some sillyness due to dirty MAF. I clean mine with every oil change (I use MAF cleaner). BTW, you will need a tiny, short phillips screwdriver....... don't drop the screw.
The first time it happened to me the engine would cut out at about 4K rpm. Until I figured out what was happening, it seemed like the car would only act-up during a entire drive cycle. After turning the car off it may or may not do it after the next restart. Good Luck

I won't mind pay a couple of hundred for the problem, but Lotus service center want to charge me $2300 for the fix, I walked away. Notice one thing recently, the choking issue only happen when the temperature of the car goes up to 190+. Usually happen when I stuck in LA traffic for too long or when the car isn't moving from light to light during hot summer days, or Using AC and the temp goes up faster. Or else the car runs fine. Do you guys think it's the throttle still? because if the temp is low, the throttle react fine. Does that mean sensor or anything else?
