AC Rubbing Noise

HI there,

Whenever I turn my steering wheel to the right and my AC is on I hear a rubbing, grinding noise. The best description I can make is similar to the noise power steering makes when it is going bad combined with tire rubbing. Anyway while in a turn if I turn off the AC it stops. Doesnt happen at all if I am turning left or not turning. Other than the noise nothing seems to malfunction. Any feedback?

Nobody out there with a clue? The noise is getting worse. More details I noticed. It makes the noise even with the compressor off. So it is related to the Blower apparently. Is there something in it that could possibly slide around when you turn? I am concerned my blower may get damaged or something. Thanks!

Hi Viper,

Nope only with it on. Somehow I think I may be replacing my blower soon.. EEEK... But if anyone has an idea of what it looks like internally maybe we could figure out what would be affected by lateral movement?

What you are looking at is the blower. Can't imagine why it is only making a noise on a right hand turn, as it is isolated from steering and suspension.

I wonder.. I purchased the car used. Occasionally a leaf comes out of the AC vents. Perhaps there is something in the blower??

I also noticed if the car is just parked and I turn the steering wheel right it does nothing, as I suspected. So its the actual leaning of the car on right turns. Sounds like the turbine is full of junk or is actually rubbing against the casing.

How much A$$ pain am I in for to get at this part?
