AIR BAG LIGHT!

So i recently re-installed my stock dash top. And then i swapped steering wheels with another member's 07 S.

We did not swap airbags.

When i get it all done my airbag light comes on for some unknown reason.

I took the steering back off checked the plugs they looked good. Let the battery sit unhooked for just a few minutes, put it back together and its still there.

Any ideas on what might have happened>?

You may have corrected the problem, but the light is still on because it has to be reset with a Lotus scan tool. There is no way to tell what you have going on until a scan tool is able to scan the system for errors and reset the light. Disconnecting/reconnecting the battery will not reset your SRS light.

I read that there is no way to reset the light, and that the airbag control module must be replaced.

Can anyone confirm or deny? I need to reset my airbag light.

Technically possible, but its a liability issue so a lot of dealers won't do it.

Can the light be nixed from within the instrument console? I removed both bags and belt tensioners, can't get other solutions in effect.

think about it from a dealer POV, bloke turns up with an air bag light, says its ok but something else caused it, car crashes airbag fails to deploy, dealer gets sued out of existence. the car could even be sold by an unscrupulous party, then the new owner suffers the consequences.

some dealers can test the airbags and reset it, i can't recall if the lotus tech iii does it or not, i'll check later..

yeah can disable the light in the cluster , disconnect the wire ought to work.

If you've removed the system entirely, you can just snip the wire on the cluster harness to kill the SRS light.

If you've still got the system in place, you should repair it properly, or remove it entirely and disclose the fact to any relevant parties. (e.g. if you sell the car)

Well im trading in the car So snipping the wire is out of the question. Ive got a mechanic with a $7k scan tool. But of course its not the lotus scan tool. Hes going to come by and see if his generic setting will be able to see anything useful. Or reset it.

If not i guess i will just have to explain it to rossion. Oh joy.

Thanks. A lot easier than trying to fool all four sensors.
As there are no airbags (and a removable wheel) it should not be an issue.
Still proper to be sure a new owner would understand that there are no bags or DMV legal seat belts.

When I removed my stock seat belts the air bag light came on. Reinstalled the explosive only from the shoulder strap retractor reel and the light went out. Yeah, its not the air bag, but surprised they would make different components of the same alarm light require reset.

I get this line of thought, but on the other hand, if there really IS a problem with the airbag system, shouldn't the light come right back on? It isn't like resetting the light causes the system to stop properly checking the system.
