Alarm question
I have an '05 Elise that I am working on and the alarm has a problem. I think I have isolated the problem to the door circuit, but I need access to the alarm controller (CDL) and I can't find it. When arming the alarm, the doors lock, the hazard lights flash twice and the tell tale flashes. After a short period, a continuous buzzer sounds for about 30 seconds. And then everything appears normal. If I arm it with a door open, while holding in the door switch, it will do the same thing, however, if the door switch is released the alarm will not go off. If the engine cover is opened, the alarm goes off. The manual says that if a door, engine cover or front cover is not closed, you will get the 30 second buzzer. So, I'm thinking the problem is in one of the door circuits.
Thanks for the help. Barry |

Barry,
Agreed, first check that the interior light is in the down position. BTW, the main alarm cpu is different from the CDL (central door locking module) Let me know if I can be of help. Michael Quote:

Barry,
Welcome to the forum. Direct all alarm questions to TheViper so as to get the correct information. Hopefully it is just the light .

I recently as in the last couple of weeks got a 2005 Elise. I have been having some minor issues with the alarm. I thought I had them all sorted as I had not had the alarm go off randomly in about a week. Initially, the interior light was not in the down position and the from panels we not properly seated. I resolved both of these issues and all ws good for about a week.
Last night the alarm went off randomly in the garage after being parked and armed for over 24 hours. No one was in the garage when it went off. After clearing the fault (In my hurry to silece I forgot to watch the tell flash code) whenever I attempted to rearm I got the long tone after about four seconds indicating an open sensor. I checked the door and both hood panels. I even went as far to check the impedence on the front panel switches to make sure they were cylcing relaibly. After a good bit of frustration and finding this post I decided to double check that the light was in the down position. It was in the middle position. After flipping it down I was able to arm without the long tone and have thusfar not had another random alarm (about 30 minutes ago). I'm a little perplexed as to how the light position would get changed after more than 24 hours of being locked and armed in the garage. Am I missing something here about the function of the down position? Defective light? Temperature sensitivity? |

Sometimes the alarm will arm OK even if the light switch is in the incorrect position. My guess is that it was in the center location originally.

Thanks for the quick response. I can deal with it sometimes arming with it in the wrong position. Is there any significance as to why the light has to be in the bottom position? Apparently I bump this more often than I should.
If there is not a a reason for the light to have to be in the bottom would it be possibly to wire it so the alarm thinks it is always down even when I have bumped it to another position by mistake? |
