I went and bought some Amsoil for the first time. It was a very strange experience. I looked up the dealer list on their website and found a lot of residential addresses. I didn't think too much of this at first.

I went over to this guy's place and found that he had a small shelf in his garage with amsoil products. He gave me a sales pitch on all of their products. After that he started on the advantages of being a dealer. He is able to supplement his retirement income with $80-100 a month. He was then telling me how I could do the same. It was kind of sureal. This guy didn't know me from Adam or what I do. It just seemed to me that making your pitch to a guy you don't know with a nearly 60k car was like pissing in the wind.

Since I left his house, I've had this overwhelming desire to go to a timeshare presentation.

Dunno about Amway being Amsoil (vice versa). I use Amsoil but get it from a storefront. I do have an aquaintance that is a dealer though. He is a dealer only so he can get better prices for himself.

It's Delux son, Delux. It's not that hard.

nope. looks more like a knock-off of the name, basic marketing idea, etc. not the same parent company either.

Even a vague knock-off of the parent company name:
Amsoil = Altrum Inc.
Amway/Quixtar = Alticor Inc.

Amway products uniformly suck. Amsoil doesn't, as far as I've heard. There's a local shop that advertises it.

Al Amatuzio: Pennzoil came at us hard, that's for sure. They objected to the Z we originally had in the name AMSOIL. We were tied up in court with them for a couple of years.

Action News: And ultimately you had to change the Z to an S.

Al Amatuzio: That's right. But what most people don't know is that after the decision was made, it was determined that we could have our Z back. We had already changed to the S at that point, so it just wasn't worth it.

Action News: Amway made life difficult for you too, didn't they?

Al Amatuzio: They sure did. They wanted us to take the AM out of AMSOIL. That went on for seven and a half years, before we beat them.

I didn't mean to equate the names but just the selling tactics.
