Bad Rack, out of warranty, options

I just checked my steering rack and noticed it has all the symptoms of a failed unit. Car is 4 months out of warranty. Anyone know if Lotus will still cover it? If not, what are my options for the cheapest replacement. I'll install it myself.
Thanks all.

Just call up the guys at Sector111 and get a Nitron rack. Lotus probably won't cover it. They do just about anything to get out of a warranty repair. If anything like the dealer out here, if they fix it, the work wil be sh*t anyways. YMMV.

He means clunky, rattley loss of straight line authority over uneven pavement ect......I got lucky, mine wore out just before warranty expired. Good luck with that. If you have to replace it yourself its pretty straight forward just kinda tight. Sector 111 has a 2.5 lock to lock rack on sale.

Before you conclude it is the rack, check out this thread.

Little clunks in steering - NOT the steering rack thread

Jack up one side of car. Grab wheel. Move left to right, not up and down. Clunking noise heard at rack and about 1/2" of slop. Jack up other side of car. Perform the same test. Same problem from that side. Tie rods are rock solid. Since I'm jacking up one side at a time and apply very little pressure, I do not see it as a torque issue. I'll check them out regardless, but think I'd only notice that if both sides of car were up in air.
