A/C Re-circulate switch does not light.

I have a 2006 and the A/C works great!.

All the temp controls work, but the Re-circulate switch does not light.

Can anyone suggest what to check?

I bought the car with 743 miles on it, so I do not have a clear history of when it stopped working.

thanks

Mine lights when pressed but doesn't do anything. I think it is a dummy switch.

Nope, That switch is for real. There is a flap on the HVAC unit that closed to about 90% recirc and 10% fresh air. I would have those replaced under warranty before the warranty time expires.

On my '05, the A/C light and the recirculating light will only come on if the fan is switched on. Turn the fan off, and the lights are off again when you switch it back on.

Yeah I tried it both with fan on and off and it made no differance, I also tried to hold the button on to see if there was a delay, and stull nothing...
I guess this will be a dealer issue.

Just noticed the same thing with mine. The recirc light used to light up, but I couldn't tell a difference in the sound or amount of airflow. Usually, a recirc button causes the airflow to increase and the sound is different from the fan. The weather has changed here recently and I tried it again and now the light doesn't light up. It will be checked at the next oil change.

My understanding is there have been multiple issues with the A/C units in general from a lack of drain holes in the HVAC compartment of the chassis. TSB for drain holes was issued back in Jan. If you have not had the dealer drill the holes, please do so while you are still under warranty so that any problems arising from it will be covered.

I'm not saying that this is the cause, but could potentially be related...

Recirculation also turns off if you have the vents set to defrost.

i just got my exige s here in the philippines where it is quite polluted and quite a slow moving traffic where i get stuck behind the exhaust of another car. my recirculation light turns on but i still get the polluted smell from outside the car. is there a way to close the vent 100%? whenever i turn the recirculation on, the button simply lights up but there is no noticeable difference.

what specifically should i check in the system?

It always has some ambient air flow into the car.

Hi

The recirculation system on the Exige is quite poor.
I had mine open and there are no rubber gasket anywhere around the unit and flap.
So there has to leek air around it.

Sorry.

The recirculation intake in the footwell never is off. When the recirculation button is "off", air flows into the system from both the front nose & footwell intakes. When the recirculation button is "on" a flapper valve shuts off the air flow from the nose intakes only. I tapped over the front intakes and rely only on the recirculated air from the footwell intake(s) and additionally opened up the drivers side one also for a substantial increase in airflow into the cabin.

Where exactly is that flapper valve?
My recirc button isn't lighting up, and it feels like the valve isn't functioning. I need to have a look at it

Here is the "recirc. valve", however it is virtually un-accessible. The easy and very effective way around the whole issue is to tape over the two front air intakes in the nose.

Thanks.
Most of the time I LIKE having air coming in INSTEAD of the A/C. However, when it's really hot, it obviously makes sense to use recirculation. Taping the intakes may fix one thing, but at the expense of something else.

The only disadvantage in the air flow of having the A/C off and using only recirculated air is loosing the ram air effect.

I tapped over the front intakes, but there is still hot air coming into the cabin, where does the hot air come from? What can I do to prevent this, seal somewhere?
Thanks

I don't think taping over the front intakes is really going to help with a hot air problem. The air that enters there, at least at speed, does so before encountering the hot radiator.
If you are having a problem with air that is hotter than the outside temperature, taping over those intakes is only going to make the system use only air recirculated from the footwell. If it's hotter in your footwell than outside, that's probably not what you want to do.
Are you saying you are having a problem with hot air flowing in even with the AC on?

The hot air comes from two sources.
1) Heater matrix-In my case shutting off the matrix reduced temperatures only 2'.
2) Radiators/Condenser/Cooling System-Virtually nothing can be done here.
IMPROVED A/C & HEATING SYSTEM
