Coolant Light Question

This morning I started the car up and the fuel tell tale lights went along with the temperature light next to the coolant temperature readout. I need gas so I know why that light went on (brilliant right) but my question about the light is: "Why are there two fuel tell tale lights?".

But the more pressing question is why my temperature light went on. I checked the coolant level and it seems to be fine and in my drive to work (15 miles) the engine temperature never went above 197F. In the manuals I have it doesn't even indicate that the temperature light is a tell tale light. Is it always on and I never really noticed or should I check the coolant level again? It is hard to read since the min/max lines are pointing to the front of the car but it seems to be full.

Thanks,
LMM
