Elise BWR backfire

I just bought an 05 with a BWR supercharger. I know nothing about the history of this car. It is backfiring just after shifts. Could the timing be off? Also, is there any way to find out if the ECU was tuned for the supercharger? I am new to Lotus and would appreciate any advice.

Does it have a test pipe? If it does and your talking about high rpm shifts then they tend to do that. If you have a cat on the car then something is probably wrong. If you didnt have it tuned for a sc it would be toast by now.

Please forgive me, but I don't know what a test pipe is. It does have an aftermarket exhaust and I pretty sure it doesn't have a cat. So backfire is normal for Elise or because of the supercharger?

PES tune has been shown to go rich over time as well.

I have a BWR and a decat pipe. Also backfires, but only when down shifting.

Note the rich A/F ratio of the PES vs the CharlieX. Back to back runs, same car.

backfiring on shifting with a decat, just usually means the DFCO (basically a fuel dump) is in effect, you just get to hear it better with the decat.

if its doing it all the time, it might be rich.

Well, I am glad to hear that backfiring isn't uncommon. BWR says the car has a PES, I didn't realize there was such a difference I guess I should get the CharlieX.

That would be a very good idea!
