Having experienced replacing the windshield, I would suggest that no one use the windshield for leverage. It's a sharp movement that can cause it to crack. I cracked mine by lightly hitting the rearview mirror by accident. Obviously, it doesn't take much for it to crack. Thanks to my Allstate glass coverage, it din't cost me anything, but $1000 for a replacement is a steap price.

It's very easy to break any windshield push from the inside. It's much harder to break in the other direction.

Nonetheless, I hadn't even considered that the glass could break even when pulling on it, which is reason enough.

having been a member of the forum for a long time i am very aware of the "dont grab the windshield" rule, but i dont know of a single case of one breaking. maybe our overseas bretherin may care to enlighten us. i personaly have had a car for 5 months an i DO AVOID grabbing the top of the windshield but i will grab the side base of it and i dont notice any flex. i have had many people grab the top even after repeated warnings but so far no pops cracks or breaks. are we worrying to much or is this a real concern?

It was our overseas bretheren that originally warned us. I don't remember who, but a good guess would be Arno.

I'm 6 feet tall, 220lbs, out of shape, and have a bad back. If I can learn to get in and out without pulling on the windshield or steering wheel, I think all of you other guys can too. Oh and before you ask, yes I can do it with and without the top on.

So stop all the complaining and just do it!

Correct and yes it is. Some passengers are quick to make fun of you for saying something and quick to be amazed at the expense of a simple windshield. Wanna guess how quick they are to pony up the dough to fix it, even just your deductible? If you don't want people to break your things then tell them how not to. If they give you too much grief about it then keep them away from your things. Friends won't mind.... much.

And why am I posting at 4:30 in the blessed am you ask?? Because I am the IT mgr and there is no one higher up where I can pass the buck. IT sucks... so do firewalls... and routers... oh well, at least they are working now. /me knocks on wood

However, many members are stating that they do use the windshield also.

And some parallel park. Some will get away with it and some will pay the price. Choices...
