Hard top - stripped bolts

ok, don't flame me here, i stripped the inside of the torx head bolts, the area where the tool fits into the bolt. i am mechanically inclined, i apparently put them on a bit too tight last november. i double checked the direction i was turning too.

my neighbor said he could help drill and tap them out, but when i mentioned it was on the Lotus, he backed away.

i made an appt at the dealer for next week for them to fix.

really sucks, we finally have nice top-off weather around here too...

so has anyone else done this?

There's quite a bit of meat on those Torx for the hardtop. I'd cut a slot with a dremel or similar, and use an impact screwdriver to get them out....unless the dealer will do it for a reasonable price. If you don't have a dremel and impact driver, what better excuse to buy more tools

I had the same thing happen to me. The dealer took car of it in about 1 minute. He took the torx socket and smashed it into the bolt with a hammer. It stuck and he was able to remove it.
