Help: Engine light still on after re-install stock cat converter

Per previous owner and Dealer information, the aftermarket cat converter has too much air flow throught oxygen sensors causing engine light on. However, the engine light did not go away after re-installing the stock cat converter. I have disconnected the battery for at least two hours, but it did not help. Per Dealer's feedback, it has to be reset with computer, and it costs $140. I think it is a little bit too much. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

You can reset the engine light with a good OBD-II code reader. You can buy one for less than $140 (and if you're making changes to the engine, the intake or exhaust, it's not a bad idea to own one). Some auto parts store lend them out if you don't want to buy.

Reset it with an OBD2 scan tool. Best bet - borrow one from a friend.

PS you can buy a scan tool for less than $50 now, and it will work for all 96-up cars you own.

Thanks for your quick response! I am located in Austin, Texas. Is there anyone can help to reset it? I hope this is not too much to ask.

Most autoparts stores will do it for free.

Yes, try calling the larger chain stores such as Auto Zone, NAPA.
Keep in mind that erasing a code will also reset the readiness monitors to a 'not ready' state, so if you are getting an inspection, you'll need to run through a drive cycle or two to put the monitors in 'ready' state before your inspection.

PS - most stores typically have policies where they can read you the code, but can't reset it unless they sell you an 02 sensor, or whatever the suggested next step is.

Not that you can't make a friend and change their mind...
