How to Remove Battery Cover

I need to access the battery, but have some questions about removing the cover. In the trunk there are two plastic fasteners that seem to run through the carpet, the battery cover, and the floor. Do I need to remove these? What kind of tool to use? Can the fasteners be reused? Thanks.

No - these are simple snaps - as found on clothing or tonneau covers (of other cars). All you need to do is unsnap the carpeting, and then the battery cover should slide out to the right (you need to yank a bit.)

Also there is a "clip" on the rear outside (back) of the battery cover. Basically, you reach to the rear side (toward the back of the car), to the back of the cover, and pull on the "level" that sticks out a bit. It releases the cover and makes it easy to pull toward the center of the car. It's much harder to describe than to actually use. Of course, once you just pull the cover off forcibly, it becomes apparent for the next time you do it...

Tim, thanks, I found the clip. Unfortunately I cracked the box trying to pull the first "snap" from the carpet. I felt like I was going to take a chunk out of the floor of the trunk. The snap did not budge. Can someone confirm about the snaps, am I supposed to pull straight up? My problem may be that it is so cold here while I'm trying this and the plastic is unforgiving.

Regarding the cracked box. I figure it's probably $200 to replace. So I may leave it off entirely and reduce the weight of the vehicle by 8oz.

But then where will you keep the owner's manual and tool kit?

The snaps are just regular old plain snaps. Half is attached to the floor of the boot, the other to the carpet. The battery cover is placed between the two snaps parts. I pull up the carpet and lift the cover up about a quarter inch to clear the bottom have of the snap...
