Intermittent DBW throttle sticking rev's issue

All,

Posting for Lotusenvee ;

Her ('06 Elise) DBW throttle is doing the following:

Randomly sticks at ~2,000 rpm. Throttle inputs have no effect - pedal position will not change the 2k rpm. can’t speed up, can slow down... pedal moves freely, no evidance throttle is mechanically sticking...

Then it goes away, like an "electrical gremlin"

i checked the obvious connectors on the throttle body and the rheostat on the pedal box... no dice!

Anyone dealt with this? know probably causes? fixes? ecu issue?

thanks!

I had a high idle problem this year with my early 2007 Elise.
It started in April/May with an idle that began to wander a little at stops, climbing over time to ~2K rpm and then staying there until the end of the drive. If the engine was turned off for any significant time (going into a store), the process would start over with a wandering idle, then eventually to ~2K. I took the car to the dealer (Park Place Ltd, Bellevue, WA) and described the problem. The service manager found no equipment problems (leaks) but needed the car another day in order to talk to Lotus and clear a possible throttle body change. In the end, he simply reflashed the ECM.
This cured the problem for about 2 weeks. Soon the car was back to the wandering idle so I began to keep a log. It appeared that if I would turn off the car for a period of ~10 minutes, the car would restart with a normal idle. Sometimes the rest of the drive was normal and other times the idle would climb again. By July, the idle problem occured every time I drove the car and instead of wandering to 2K, it would go there as soon as I touched the throttle to leave the garage. The car became very unpleasant to drive. In all this time, the idle never went above 2K. Finally (and for the first time) the check engine light came on.
Took the car and my log to the dealer (end of July). The service manager told me that Lotus sent a special program for the ECU that had been used very rarely. No problem since.
The service record read:
"High idle: check engine light on code P2138 - throttle position sensor 'D'/'E' voltage correlation P2122 - TPS 'D' curcuit low P2106 - throttle actuator control system - forced limited power. Tested throttle position sensor, at this time is working correct. Cleared codes after warm up idle is 880rpm. Checked throttle actuator connector is clean and tight. Installed E121 program to Lotus scan tool reflash ECU with E121 program. Test drove, idle is OK at this time."

Thanks Rodney for posting for me. Caprow describes the same symptoms my car is having. I'll take your description of the issue and their fix to the dealer. Thanks so much again to you both!!

I had the EXACT same problem on my `07 Exige.

Dealer replaced a faulty throttle position sensor under warranty. Instantly fixed the issue.
